Location: Stoke-On-Trent

Salary: Up to Β£31,880 per annum

Working Hours: 9:00pm - 5:00am, Sunday to Thursday

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Team Leader to join a busy food manufacturing operation based in Stoke-On-Trent. This is a key role within the technical and factory operations team, responsible for supporting food safety, quality, compliance, training and factory standards across the night shift. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Quality Control and Factory Team Leaders to ensure processes and standards are consistently maintained, while identifying opportunities for improvement and addressing any quality or compliance concerns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Factory Oversight
    • Oversee factory operations with a focus on:
      • Product traceability
      • Allergen controls
      • Metal detection
      • Label verification
      • NPD presence within production
    • Ensure technical and food safety standards are consistently maintained across production.
    • Identify and address any issues or concerns within the factory environment.
  • Compliance & Training
    • Monitor staff compliance using the company's Core system.
    • Ensure all staff training is completed and kept up to date in line with current site policies and procedures.
    • Support the development of employee competency through assessments, coaching and ongoing training.
    • Promote a strong culture of food safety, quality and compliance.
  • Meetings & Communication
    • Attend daily production planning meetings.
    • Hold regular meetings with the Quality Control team.
    • Conduct fortnightly meetings with Factory Team Leaders.
    • Produce a monthly report highlighting key topics, trends and concerns requiring management attention.
    • Ensure effective communication between the Technical, Quality and Production teams.
  • Investigations & Reporting
    • Lead immediate investigations into food safety, quality and compliance issues.
    • Identify trends and recurring issues through investigation findings.
    • Recommend and support appropriate corrective actions.
    • Produce detailed findings for inclusion within the monthly Board Pack.
  • Auditing & Continuous Improvement
    • Carry out regular GMP audits.
    • Complete glass and hard plastic audits.
    • Conduct hygiene audits and identify areas for improvement.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives across technical and production processes.
    • Ensure corrective actions are followed through and completed effectively.
  • Raw Materials & Quality Control
    • Carry out spot-check monitoring of raw material intake.
    • Provide Quality Control support where required.
    • Verify that incoming raw materials meet required quality and food safety standards.
    • Escalate any concerns relating to raw materials, quality or food safety appropriately.

About You

  • Previous experience within a technical, quality or food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working within food safety and quality procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, allergen controls, traceability and factory compliance.
  • Experience conducting audits and investigations.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • The ability to identify issues, investigate root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience supporting and developing teams through coaching and training.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to maintaining high standards and driving continuous improvement.
  • The ability to work effectively within a busy manufacturing environment and manage priorities independently.
