Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to join our client\’s management team in a fast-paced food manufacturing site. In this role, you will ensure the health, safety, and environmental wellbeing of all employees while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company policies. You will work closely with senior leadership to promote a culture of safety, minimise risks, and drive continuous improvement in HSE practices across the site.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food manufacturing or similar manufacturing environments, with a comprehensive understanding of HSE standards, food safety regulations, and environmental practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Hazard Identification & Risk Management: Assist managers and supervisors in identifying workplace hazards, particularly those related to food production and processing, and implement corrective actions to minimise risk
Incident Reporting & Monitoring: Develop and maintain effective incident reporting and monitoring systems, ensuring all accidents or near misses are promptly reported and corrective actions are implemented
Health & Safety Promotion: Champion the health, safety, and environmental policies at the site, engaging employees in safety initiatives and promoting a proactive safety culture
Legislative Compliance: Stay up-to-date with health, safety, food safety, and environmental regulations relevant to the food manufacturing industry, ensuring the site’s operations comply with current legislation
Food Safety Standards: Work closely with production teams to ensure adherence to food safety standards (e.g., HACCP), and monitor processes to identify potential hazards that could impact product safety or quality
Strategic Planning: Support the implementation of short and long-term HSE strategies, working in partnership with the Group HSE Managers to raise health, safety, and environmental standards across the site
Resource Management: Liaise with senior management to ensure proper resource allocation for HSE activities, managing operations within agreed resource parameters
Training & Development: Ensure all staff are adequately trained in health, safety, food safety, and environmental procedures, and lead ongoing safety education and skill development across all departments
HSE Communication: Ensure that all relevant health, safety, and environmental information is communicated effectively to the workforce, and provide clear guidance on safety protocols and best practices
Environmental Responsibility: Promote sustainability and environmental consciousness in day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and encouraging eco-friendly practices within the site
Skills & Experience:

Extensive experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental management, ideally within a food manufacturing or industrial setting
In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, food hygiene), health and safety laws, and environmental policies
Strong experience in implementing and maintaining HSE reporting systems, including incident tracking and root cause analysis
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence staff at all levels
NEBOSH xiskglj or equivalent health and safety qualification (essential), along with a relevant environmental qualification (e.g., IEMA)
A proactive, solution-oriented approach, with the ability to lead change and foster a safety-first culture
Knowledge of environmental sustainability initiatives and a commitment to improving site environmental performance
Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities
