About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, warm, and organized Temporary Cook to join our team at Tŷ Taf in the Treforest Industrial Estate. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving wholesome, delicious, and simple home‑cooked style meals for our staff. If you take pride in preparing comforting, classic dishes from scratch—such as hearty soups, classic roasts, pasta dishes, and traditional bakes—and thrive in a daytime‑only, weekday routine, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meal Preparation & Cooking: Plan, prep, and cook a daily menu of simple, high‑quality, "home‑cooked" style meals and light bites (e.g., breakfasts, midday meals, soups, and daily specials).
  • Kitchen Operations: Ensure all food is prepped and ready for key service times, maintaining a smooth and efficient flow from 7:00 AM onwards.
  • Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintain exemplary standards of cleanliness in the kitchen, dishwashing, and dining areas. Strictly adhere to Food Safety Standards, including temperature monitoring, allergen management, and correct food storage/labeling.
  • Stock & Portion Control: Manage daily kitchen inventory, minimize food waste, and assist with ordering ingredients as needed.
  • Customer Service: Present meals attractively and provide a friendly, welcoming service to team members and visitors.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven Cooking Experience: Previous experience working as a cook, prep cook, or commis chef (experience in contract catering, cafes, or care home environments is highly desirable).
  • Passion for Comfort Food: A strong ability to cook simple, flavorful, and classic "home‑style" meals without needing overly complex recipes.
  • Reliability & Punctuality: Since this role has a sharp 7:00 AM start, outstanding timekeeping and reliability are non‑negotiable.
  • Food Hygiene Qualification: A valid Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene certificate is essential (or willingness to obtain one immediately).
  • Efficiency: Ability to work independently, manage your own prep schedule, and keep a clean, organized workstation.

Benefits & Work Environment

  • Great Work‑Life Balance: No evenings and no weekends! Enjoy a consistent Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM shift pattern.
