We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Yard Operative to join our busy operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe handling, loading and unloading of chemical products, maintaining a clean and organised yard, and ensuring all vehicle movements and loading activities are completed efficiently and in compliance with company procedures and health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload tankers, HGVs and other vehicles with chemical products in accordance with site procedures.
- Operate pumps, hoses, valves and loading equipment safely and efficiently.
- Carry out vehicle checks prior to loading and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
- Assist with the receipt, storage and dispatch of raw materials and finished products.
- Monitor storage tanks and report any issues or abnormalities.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the yard and loading area.
- Operate forklifts and other mobile plant (where authorised and trained).
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with COSHH, environmental regulations and company safety procedures.
- Wear and maintain the appropriate PPE at all times.
- Support stock movements and inventory control activities.
- Report spills, leaks, equipment defects or safety concerns immediately.
- Assist with routine maintenance and cleaning of loading equipment and the yard.
- Work collaboratively with production, warehouse and transport teams to meet customer delivery schedule.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, logistics or industrial environment.
- Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Ability to follow written procedures and complete documentation accurately.
- Good communication skills.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Flexible approach to working hours when required.
- Reach/Counterbalance Forklift Licence.
- ADR awareness or hazardous goods handling experience.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Experience loading tankers or bulk vehicles.
