KPI Recruiting is seeking a safety-conscious, versatile Hazardous Paint Warehouse Operator & FLT Driver on behalf of our client based in Cheshire. This hybrid role is split evenly between forklift truck operation and manual warehouse duties. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe movement, storage, picking, and packing of flammable paints, volatile solvents, toxic chemical raw materials, and hazardous liquid waste. Working in a high-risk environment, they will be expected to follow COSHH regulations and site safety procedures at all times to help prevent fire, explosion, and exposure risks.

Working Hours: 7:00am start, Monday to Friday

Hourly Rate: £13.50 per hour during probation

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely transport intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), heavy steel chemical drums, pallets of raw paint pigments, and finished toxic solvent coatings across the site.
  • Load and unload incoming chemical shipments from delivery HGVs and prepare finished products for safe outbound transport.
  • Stack and organise high-density paint inventories in specialist racking systems while maintaining load stability and safe access.
  • Carry out daily pre-use inspections on the FLT, identifying hydraulic leaks, mechanical faults, or safety concerns before operation.
  • Accurately pick and pack products and materials using pick sheets, ensuring items are secured in line with transport safety standards.
  • Organise stock in accordance with site safety guidelines, maintaining the correct segregation of hazardous material categories.
  • Collect and move warehouse waste streams to designated containment zones in line with site safety procedures.
  • Carry out regular stock checks, verify batch codes, and maintain accurate inventory records for all materials.
  • Follow emergency procedures and use the appropriate personal protective equipment and spill response measures to manage leaks or incidents safely.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid forklift truck licence and proven experience operating an FLT in a warehouse or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse safety practices and experience handling hazardous or chemical-based materials.
  • Awareness of COSHH requirements and the importance of following strict safety procedures.
  • Ability to carry out manual handling tasks and work effectively in a physically demanding environment.
  • Good attention to detail when checking stock, batch codes, and shipment accuracy.
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
