A welcoming and inclusive infant school in Manchester is looking to appoint an experienced Pastoral Support Officer to play a key role in improving attendance, strengthening family engagement, and supporting pupils with additional social, emotional and behavioural needs. Salary: 24,******,000 (depending on experience)

Contract: Term time only (39 weeks)

The Role:

You will be instrumental in promoting positive attendance, safeguarding vulnerable pupils, and working in partnership with families and external professionals. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on pastoral care.

Key duties include:

  • Monitoring, analysing, and improving attendance and punctuality
  • Leading first-day response procedures and conducting home visits where required
  • Meeting with parents/carers to address attendance and wellbeing concerns
  • Working alongside external agencies and the Local Authority
  • Supporting children presenting with SEMH and complex behavioural needs
  • Acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Managing safeguarding referrals and maintaining accurate electronic records
  • Contributing to multi-agency meetings
  • Supporting children in crisis and delivering targeted emotional interventions
  • Supporting cared-for children and tracking progress targets
  • Promoting a nurturing, safe school culture

You will also contribute to wider school life, including supporting at lunchtimes and on educational visits where necessary.

About You:

We are looking for someone who brings both experience and empathy.

Essential requirements:

  • HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND, or complex needs
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and confidence managing concerns
  • Experience working directly with families
  • Resilient, calm, and solution-driven mindset

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate study in Educational Psychology or a related field
  • Early Years or infant school experience
  • Experience implementing attendance strategies and interventions
