SEN Teaching Assistant – Leeds

LS12, Leeds | Β£24,000–£26,000 per year | September interviews

Are you someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and young people and wants a role where you can make a real difference?

We are recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a school in the LS12 area of Leeds. This role would suit someone who is patient, resilient and confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.

You don't have to be a qualified teacher. We're looking for someone who can build trust with pupils, understand that every child is different and adapt their support accordingly.

The role

You will work closely with teachers and the school's SEN team to provide individual and small-group support.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 support to pupils with SEN
  • Supporting pupils with their learning and development
  • Working with small groups on targeted interventions
  • Helping pupils manage their behaviour and emotions
  • Supporting pupils who may struggle with communication or social interaction
  • Encouraging independence and confidence
  • Adapting activities and communication to suit individual needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom

Experience we're looking for

Experience working with SEN or additional needs would be highly beneficial. This could come from:

  • Schools or education
  • SEN settings
  • Social care
  • Residential care
  • Childcare
  • Youth work
  • Support work
  • Mentoring
  • Volunteering

We're also interested in graduates with relevant degrees such as Psychology, Sociology, Education, Childhood Studies, Childcare, Health & Social Care or other related subjects.

You should be

  • Patient and understanding
  • Calm and resilient
  • Positive and approachable
  • Confident building relationships with pupils
  • Able to adapt your approach to different needs
  • Comfortable supporting challenging behaviour
  • Reliable and consistent
  • A strong communicator
  • Genuinely passionate about helping young people

This is a particularly good opportunity for someone looking to build a career in SEN, teaching, psychology, education, social care or youth support.
