Thinking about a PGCE? Get the classroom experience that makes your application stand out. Before committing to teacher training, spending a year working directly in a school is one of the most valuable steps you can take — strengthening your application, building confidence, and helping you decide whether teaching is the right path. This role places you within maths departments, working closely with students and experienced teachers, giving you genuine, credible school experience to draw on at interview.

The Role

As a Graduate Maths Learning Mentor, you’ll support students across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and potentially A-Level Maths who need additional academic support. You’ll deliver targeted interventions, work one‑to‑one with pupils, support lessons, and help students develop confidence, fluency, and exam technique in mathematics. This is an active, hands‑on role — you’ll be a valued member of the maths department from day one.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering targeted maths support across KS3, GCSE, and A-Level
  • Running small group and one-to-one intervention sessions
  • Supporting pupils with numeracy, problem‑solving, and mathematical reasoning
  • Helping students prepare for assessments and GCSE/A-Level exams
  • Reinforcing core topics such as algebra, geometry, and number
  • Working closely with qualified maths teachers to raise attainment and confidence

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • A 2:1 or above in a Maths, Engineering, Economics, Physics, or related degree
  • Strong subject knowledge in mathematics
  • Excellent communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people
  • Motivation to pursue a career in maths education

Desirable:

  • Previous tutoring, mentoring, or classroom experience
  • Familiarity with the GCSE Maths curriculum

Why This Role?

  • Strengthen your PGCE application – gain meaningful, school‑based experience that teacher training providers value
  • Competitive pay – earn up to £560 per week, term‑time only
  • Learn from professionals – work alongside experienced maths teachers every day
  • Make a real impact – support students at crucial stages of their academic journey
