We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Therapist (with QTS) to join a brand new, purpose-built specialist independent school opening this September in Manchester. This is a unique role combining teaching, therapeutic thinking, and personalised education support for young people aged 11–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
About the Role:
- This is a highly rewarding and varied position where you will support students both academically and emotionally, helping them re‑engage with education in a way that works for them.
- Deliver tailored learning programmes based on individual needs and EHCP targets.
- Support students with SEMH needs through a therapeutic and relationship‑based approach.
- Work 1:1 and with small groups to rebuild confidence, trust, and engagement in learning.
- Collaborate closely with therapists, SEN staff, and senior leaders.
- Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where students can thrive.
This is not a traditional classroom teaching role — it’s about combining education with therapeutic understanding to remove barriers to learning.
What’s On Offer:
- Competitive salary (dependent on experience).
- September start date.
- Excellent Manchester location with strong transport links.
- Opportunity to help shape a brand new specialist independent school.
- Small group settings with highly individualised support.
- A supportive, forward‑thinking leadership team.
- Modern, purpose‑built facilities designed for SEMH learners.
- Ongoing training and professional development in therapeutic approaches.
- A genuinely life‑changing and rewarding role.
About You:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Strong experience working with SEMH children and young people.
- Background in specialist, alternative, or therapeutic education settings.
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students.
- Calm, patient, resilient, and highly adaptable approach.
- Strong understanding of behaviour as communication.
- Ability to deliver personalised learning in a flexible and creative way.
Desirable experience:
- Trauma‑informed practice.
- Attachment‑aware approaches.
- Working within multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Supporting students with complex emotional needs.
Why This Role?
This is far more than a teaching job - it’s an opportunity to become part of a specialist provision where education and therapy work hand in hand. You’ll be helping young people who have struggled in mainstream education to rebuild confidence, re‑engage with learning, and achieve real progress.
