A welcoming secondary school in Birmingham is looking for an enthusiastic Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant to join its team. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your subject knowledge to support students across Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths while developing valuable experience within a school environment.

What will you be doing?

Working alongside experienced teachers, you'll provide additional support to students across a range of STEM subjects. You'll help pupils understand challenging concepts, develop their problem-solving skills and become more confident and independent learners.

You may support students 1:1, in small groups and within the wider classroom, giving you experience working with learners of different abilities and needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group supportacross STEM subjects
  • Help students develop their understanding of key STEM concepts
  • Support pupils with problem-solving, practical tasks and independent learning
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks
  • Encourage students to engage positively with STEM subjects
  • Help build students' confidence and motivation
  • Support learners who require additional guidance with their studies
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider school team
  • Provide feedback on student progress where appropriate

Who are we looking for?

We're keen to hear from graduates with:

  • A STEM-related degree, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or a related subject, ideally at 2:1 or above
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to communicate ideas clearly
  • A genuine interest in working with young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable, but not essential)

Previous classroom experience isn't required. We're looking for graduates with strong subject knowledge, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to help young people develop their skills and achieve their potential.
