Graduate Science Teaching Assistant (Physics, Chemistry or Biology) at a high-performing secondary school in Bexley, South East London. This is a full-time position for the entire academic year, with long-term opportunities starting in September. Salary: £28,000 – £31,000.

An outstanding and high-performing secondary school in the London Borough of Bexley is seeking exceptional Science graduates to join its thriving Science faculty as Graduate Teaching Assistant from September.

The Role:

  • Working alongside an experienced and supportive Science department, you will develop your teaching skills while supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Depending on your degree specialism, you will primarily support lessons in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
  • Your responsibilities will include:
    • Supporting pre-planned Science lessons within your specialist subject with experienced teachers.
    • Supporting students in developing scientific knowledge, practical skills and analytical thinking.
    • Leading small-group intervention sessions and one-to-one academic support.
    • Assisting with lesson planning, marking and assessment.
    • Supporting practical investigations and ensuring high standards of laboratory safety where appropriate.
    • Developing excellent classroom management and behaviour strategies.
    • Becoming fully involved in the wider life of the school and Science department.

Throughout the year, you will receive structured mentoring and ongoing professional development, preparing you for progression into teacher training.

Person Specification:

  • To be considered, you must:
    • Be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:1 or First-Class degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or a closely related Science subject from a UK university.
    • Be committed to pursuing a long-term career in secondary Science teaching.
    • Be available to work full-time from September for the full academic year, with the possibility of continuing beyond.
    • Live within the London Borough of Bexley or within approximately one hour's commute of the school.
    • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and outstanding subject knowledge.
    • Be enthusiastic, resilient and passionate about helping young people succeed.
    • Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential.
