About the Food Technology department
The Food Technology department is part of a well-established Creative Technologies faculty that values both practical skill development and academic rigour. Students have the opportunity to study Food Preparation and Nutrition as part of the Key Stage 4 curriculum, where classes are structured to build both technical competence and understanding of nutrition, food science and healthy eating as they progress through the school.
The department is staffed by a collaborative team of experienced and specialist teachers, working alongside dedicated technicians to deliver a curriculum that combines theory and practical learning in well-resourced food studios. Teachers work together to plan schemes of learning that are engaging, meet the latest exam requirements, and support students to achieve strong outcomes at GCSE level.
At Key Stage 3, students are introduced to foundational skills in food safety, preparation and nutrition, while at GCSE they pursue a nationally recognised qualification that develops confidence in practical food preparation alongside an understanding of food science, diet and nutrition. Classes are supported with effective assessment practices and extra-curricular opportunities where students can further extend their skills and creativity.
