Unit Size: 3-bed unit, expandable to 9 beds as needed.
Patient Population: Ages 4 months through adolescence.
NICU Transfers: The NICU receives full patient handoff for neonatal cases.
Staffing Structure: The PICU shares space with Inpatient Pediatrics; however, RNs assigned to the PICU will work exclusively in the PICU. There is no personnel sharing between departments.
On-Call Requirement: One scheduled on-call shift per pay period. Example: If Jane Doe is scheduled for 12-hour shifts on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, she will be assigned an 8-hour on-call shift during either Week 1 or Week 2 of the pay period.
Training: On-the-job training lasts approximately 10β12 weeks, typically consisting of 8-hour shifts during that period.
N95 Fit Testing: A fit test and medical screening are required for this unit. If an employee cannot be fitted for an N95 mask due to medical reasons, documentation must be on file. In such cases, the department must note the required mask size, and the employee will be provided a hood as an alternative.
