The Finance Director is a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO as both the Club's financial steward and a trusted strategic partner. This role blends day-to-day financial responsibilities, including planning, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and cash flow management, with forward-looking insights to shape the Club's 3- to 5-year vision. The Finance Director oversees financial operations with strong internal controls while guiding project planning, capital initiatives, and strategic investments that drive long-term growth. Equally important, the Finance Director translates complex financial matters into clear, actionable guidance for the leadership team and serves as a warm, approachable presence for Members and colleagues, making a meaningful impact on the Club's success and community.
About London Golf Club: London Golf Club in Ash, Kent, established in 1994, is one of the UK's premier golf destinations, renowned for its two Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole courses, The Heritage and The International, set amid 700 acres of beautiful countryside. The club has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the European Open and the Cazoo Classic, and is part of the European Tour Destinations network, welcoming golfers from across the UK and beyond. Beyond golf, it offers exceptional hospitality with a striking clubhouse, social and corporate events, and a vibrant member community. Finance Director Position Overview: The Finance Director reports to the Chief Executive and oversees both the Club's strategic and day-to-day financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present accurate, timely financial reports, including monthly, biannual, and annual statements, and translate complex information into clear guidance for the leadership team.
- Develop reports, benchmarked data, and insights aligned with Club requirements and industry best practices.
- Lead the development and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets, reporting progress against targets and advising on variances.
- Provide regular financial updates, including wage forecasts, to department heads to support effective budget management.
- Act as key contact and authorised signatory for Club bank accounts, member accounting matters, vendor payments, and auditors.
- Manage the Club's cash flow to ensure liquidity and operational efficiency, and oversee the Fixed Asset Register, including depreciation and capital replacement planning in collaboration with operations.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with all statutory and financial regulations.
- Coordinate annual audits and address findings with auditors and senior management.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with department heads to provide financial guidance for day-to-day operations and long-term projects, maintaining hands-on involvement where required.
- Build strong, personable relationships with Members, acting as a visible point of contact for financial matters and supporting the Club's community and culture.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software, ensuring accuracy, security, and process improvement.
- Participate in Club events and engage actively with Members, ensuring finance is approachable, transparent, and supportive of their experience.
Candidate Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in balancing long-term financial and strategic planning with day-to-day operational management, including major projects and capital initiatives.
- Proven senior finance leadership, ideally as a Finance Director or equivalent.
- Strong financial acumen, able to translate complex information into clear, actionable guidance.
- High integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the Club's values.
- Skilled in financial systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communicator, able to collaborate across teams and build strong relationships with Members and colleagues.
- Approachable and visible, willing to engage with Members and participate in Club events.
- Team-oriented leader, fostering a positive culture and supporting staff development.
- Experienced in guiding projects and initiatives that deliver long-term growth while ensuring operational excellence.
Education and Certification:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with membership of a recognised UK professional accounting body.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Management (with emphasis on Finance) is ideal, but not essential.
