Role Overview
We are launching a hybrid Employment Coach or Specialist role, delivering coaching to young people aged 18‑25 in the West Midlands. You will spend time in both face‑to‑face support in the Birmingham area and online work with our adult mental health team, shaping the future of youth employment support.
Responsibilities
- Provide on‑the‑ground and online employment support from vocational profiling to placement, ensuring clients no longer need in‑work support.
- Guide individuals through outreach/referral, action planning, job search (including employer matchmaking), placement, and withdrawal of support.
- Collaborate with the online team and MHPs on Qwell for a seamless support pathway, combining text‑based and F2F methods.
- Deliver specialist coaching via live forums and single‑session support in text chat.
- Manage an active caseload of 20‑25, many with mental health needs, aiding them to secure sustainable paid employment.
Partnership and Stakeholder Relations
- Build positive relationships with local employers to enable clients into suitable work.
- Engage employers to match participants to roles reflecting their skills and aspirations.
- Offer flexible support and signposting to wrap‑around services, specialist provision and internal resources.
- Collaborate with Jobcentre Plus, local employers, NHS, social care, education partners and the wider community to create pathways and ensure job retention.
Clinical Administration
- Maintain accurate records and case notes using Kooth‑approved systems.
- Liaise with other professionals/services about safeguarding concerns.
- Perform all duties in line with compliance, legal requirements and internal policies, particularly safeguarding and data protection legislation.
Requirements
Essential
- Employability skills and experience supporting people through the employment journey, including basic mental health support.
- Prior Supported Employment experience or training in IPS or SEQF fidelity models.
- NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Careers Education and Guidance, Youth and Community Work or Social Care.
- Strong knowledge of local and regional labour markets, including growth sectors, employer needs and training opportunities.
- Experience supporting people to obtain or keep work.
- Proven track record of meeting and exceeding outcomes and targets.
- Capability managing a caseload of individuals with complex needs to achieve sustainable employment.
Desirable
- Degree in a relevant subject such as social care, mental health, counselling, social work, psychology or equivalent professional qualification.
- Professional training in mental health support and working with people around emotional well‑being.
- Experience with individuals having mental health needs or similar client groups.
- Direct or indirect experience supporting those with disabilities, health conditions or complex barriers to employment.
