We are seeking a motivated and talented Degree-Level Apprentice Electrical Engineer to join our team in Gateshead. Working alongside experienced engineers, the apprentice will gain hands-on experience in electrical design, documentation, testing, and problem-solving within a highly regulated marine engineering environment.

What you will be doing:

  • Engineering Learning & Development: Work under supervision to learn the fundamentals of electrical engineering, marine systems, and industry standards. Show enthusiasm for participating in engineering, manufacturing, projects, and service functions. Complete all apprenticeship academic requirements, assignments, and assessments on schedule.
  • Electrical Design & Documentation: Assist in producing electrical schematics, simple wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using 2D CAD tools. Support the creation and updating of 2D drawings, 3D models, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). Help produce engineering documentation such as reports, manuals, test procedures, and change notes. Perform engineering calculations and data collection. Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Project & Process Support: Contribute to estimating and delivering work packages. Apply company processes, QMS, and change control. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional Behaviour: Demonstrate enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Communicate clearly and professionally. Work effectively within a team environment.

We think you should have:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above).
  • Level 3 qualification or higher, ideally in engineering or related field.
  • Eligibility for enrolment on a Degree Apprenticeship programme.
  • 96 UCAS Points.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Clear and confident communication.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic familiarity with CAD tools.
  • Prior technical experience through college, projects, or extracurricular activities.
  • Understanding basic electrical principles.
