The Bid Manager is a key role within the Naval Handling UK Global Sales Team, reporting to the Director Naval Sales. In this role, you will collaborate closely with different areas of the business, including engineering and procurement, to ensure products are cost-effective and profitable. The Bid Manager should have strong communication skills to work with and influence key departments and stakeholders, providing up-to-date costing and pricing information to the sales team. The role also involves reading drawings and technical documents and utilising computer software to calculate, prepare estimates, and finalise bids. This role requires strong project management skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to deliver high-quality proposals. The Bid Manager ensures bids are compelling, compliant, and aligned with the company’s goals and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and update cost schedules in accordance with Company Procedures and guidelines, aiming for maximum accuracy and quick turnaround.
- Support the Align 2.0 process with the Director Naval Sales and establish a communication network for bids between sales, engineering, procurement, and projects departments.
- Prepare OEM bids from start to finish, scheduling activities to meet deadlines.
- Assist in compiling bid documents alongside the Director Naval Sales.
- Chair Product Centre bid review meetings, document departmental actions, and prioritise accordingly.
- Chair Product Centre bid approval meetings before finalising bids.
- Process costs for materials and maintain up-to-date cost data for standard products in collaboration with procurement.
- Provide cost support to engineering during concept and design exploration for cost reduction.
- Support R&D initiatives by preparing cost reports for labour, materials, and manufacturing/testing.
- Support cost data needs for quality, warranty, and insurance claims.
- Standardise estimating and bid management processes and document them.
- Coordinate data handling methods within the RAS team.
- Provide estimating information to the Naval Handling UK team.
- Liaise with auditors as needed.
- Undertake training to improve estimating skills and methods.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Qualifications and experience
- Degree qualified with experience managing sales campaigns with multiple clients.
- Excellent negotiation skills and understanding of contractual terms.
- Knowledge of the marine industry, especially naval markets.
- Familiarity with product ranges and shipbuilding practices.
- Strong engineering background with the ability to communicate technically.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365.
- Proof of right to work in the UK.
This role requires BPSS security pre-employment screening and may require additional Security Clearance due to work with the MoD.
