The Assistant Legal Counsel assists the legal function in providing advice and services on legal concerns to protect KONE’s reputation and business interests and help ensure it complies with all relevant laws and regulations. This is an entry level junior role. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply promptly as interviews will be arranged when suitable applications are received.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works as part of the wider legal team
  • Works efficiently, accurately and remains calm under pressure
  • Reviews JCT and NEC construction contracts to deadlines
  • Reviews collateral warranties, performance bonds and retention bonds to deadlines
  • Reviews, negotiates, and agrees to contractual terms on maintenance contracts to deadlines
  • Attends client meetings to negotiate and agree contractual terms
  • Completes contract checklists to ensure that key contractual clauses are incorporated
  • Assists in general administrative tasks including copying, scanning, and filing
  • Arranges execution of contracts
  • Updates the Contract Spreadsheet with progress of contractual negotiations ensuring that service legal agreements are kept
  • May include the management of litigation with appropriate supervision
  • Assists the Legal Team in other legal tasks

Is intellectually challenged and is required to have a high degree of attention to detail and ability to understand and apply legal principles.

Professional requirements:

  • Basic understanding of the law in general
  • Some experience in drafting contracts and legal documents
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Proactive approach
  • Advanced office-tools literacy, contractual and financial understanding

Skills:

  • A law degree and/or LPC would be especially advantageous
  • An understanding of construction law would be advantageous
  • Good spoken & written English
  • Strong academic record
  • Talent, ambition, and a genuine interest in non-contentious construction work
  • An understanding of JCT, NEC3/4, FIDIC and RIAI Yellow and Blue Standard Forms of Building Contracts would be useful
  • Position could suit those from a Paralegal background
  • Any training will be provided
