Bring your mechanical design expertise to a fast-moving consumer product team in London. This Contract Product Design Engineer role offers the chance to take ownership of mechanism and packaging challenges, working hands-on with CAD and prototypes. It’s a one-month contract (likely to extend), outside IR35, paying £350–£500 / day, hybrid with 23 days onsite.

Scope of the Role

  • As a Contract Design Engineer, you’ll focus on packaging complex assemblies into functional, manufacturable solutions that prove feasibility.
  • Repackage existing CAD into new assemblies and layouts.
  • Develop mechanisms for actuation, locking and multi-mode interaction.
  • Build prototypes and rigs to demonstrate ergonomics and usability.
  • Work with engineers to hand over concepts into downstream development.

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience in consumer product mechanical design.
  • Mechanical design for consumer products such as handhelds or appliances.
  • Strong background in mechanism design and packaging assemblies.
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred).
