This is a senior individual contributor position at the intersection of advanced AI research and production software engineering. You will collaborate daily with a world-class mathematical science team, owning the reliability, scalability, and developer experience of the product layer. As an early member of a growing start-up, you will also be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy and self-direction. You will wear multiple hats, help establish engineering standards and practices, and play an active part in maturing Kodamai as a technical organisation. We are looking for someone who steps up when it matters, takes ownership beyond their immediate remit, and is energised rather than deterred by the ambiguity that comes with building something new.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated experience delivering and maintaining production-grade software systems at scale.
  • Our implementation language is Julia. Proficiency in Julia, or a genuine and documented commitment to acquiring it, is a firm requirement for this role.
  • Prior experience in one or more modern languages — Go, Rust, Scala, or TypeScript — is not a substitute for Julia, but provides valuable conceptual grounding and will accelerate onboarding into our codebase and architecture.
  • Working knowledge of Java or Python is an additional advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, GCP, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Practical experience with containerisation and orchestration using Docker and/or Kubernetes.
  • Proven, production-level experience designing and delivering AI/ML systems, not limited to experimentation or research contexts.
  • Solid understanding of modern AI/ML fundamentals: transformer architectures, foundation models, fine-tuning methodologies, and inference pipelines.
  • Foundational knowledge of data science practices is advantageous.
  • An active interest in the mathematical and theoretical underpinnings of AI/ML is essential.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Background in category theory, type theory, or formal methods.
  • Experience with functional programming paradigms.
  • Familiarity with scientific computing or numerical programming environments.

What We Offer

  • Collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
  • Competitive consultancy fee commensurate with experience.
  • Continuous learning opportunities and access to cutting-edge AI technologies.
