KO2 is working exclusively with a well-established design and manufacturing business based in South Cumbria, developing innovative sensor technology used to monitor noise and sound in remote environments as part of the wider IoT sector. Due to continued growth, KO2's client is looking for an Electronic Engineer to join their design team. This is a hands-on hardware role, developing new and existing electronic designs from initial concept through to prototyping and commissioning. Embedded software is a real bonus here, but it is not a dealbreaker. If your background is strongly electronics and hardware and you are keen to build up your embedded C/C++ skills in a commercial setting, this role gives you the platform to do exactly that alongside experienced engineers.
What you'll be doing:
- Working closely with the wider design team to develop electronic circuitry and embedded systems for cutting-edge sensor products
- Designing and testing electrical schematics and PCBs, building prototypes and diagnosing issues on new and existing designs
- Getting involved in embedded systems work as your skills and interest develop
- Supporting other departments, suppliers and customers with technical documentation
- Occasionally taking part in customer support, training and demonstrations
What you'll need:
- A relevant qualification and hands-on experience in electronics engineering
- Solid theoretical knowledge of analogue circuitry, amplifiers, signal conditioning, analogue-to-digital conversion, digital logic and power supplies
- Proficiency with industry-standard PCB design software such as Altium Designer
- A genuine interest in electronics and hardware first and foremost
- Prior exposure to embedded microprocessors (PIC, AVR, ARM) and firmware in C or C++ is a strong advantage but not essential
- A creative, analytical approach with strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Good communication and time-management skills, and the ability to work well as part of a close-knit team
- Comfortable using standard office software such as Microsoft 365/Office
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as RS232/485, SPI, I2C, Ethernet and USB
- Awareness of high-speed digital design principles and devices such as FPGAs, memories and clock buffers
- Experience designing for reduced EMI and compliance requirements
On offer:
- A salary in the range of £45,000 to £52,000, reflecting experience
- Private medical cover
- Pension scheme provided through the workplace
- Cycle to Work scheme available
- 33 days holiday per year once bank holidays are included
- A great environment and location to work in
