KO2’s client is looking for a Software & Embedded Systems Manager to lead a multidisciplinary R&D team working across embedded software, wireless systems and next-generation connected products. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining people management, technical direction and delivery responsibility across a growing engineering function. The successful candidate will oversee software development activities spanning embedded Linux, RTOS-based systems, MCU development and wireless technologies, ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time and to a high level of quality.
You will play a key role in driving technical standards, mentoring engineers and shaping future product development, while working closely with senior leadership on planning, resource allocation and team growth.
The Role- Lead and manage a team of embedded software and electronics engineers
- Provide technical leadership across embedded Linux, RTOS and wireless product development
- Oversee concept, design and development activities from architecture through to release
- Ensure software quality, stability and robust bug resolution processes
- Support resource planning, recruitment, training, performance management and team development
- Work closely with hardware teams, understanding schematics and system-level design considerations
- Contribute to the development of both legacy and next-generation embedded platforms
- Drive engineering best practice across software development and product delivery
- Strong leadership and people management experience within an engineering environment
- Commercial experience with embedded Linux and/or RTOS development
- Experience with MCU-based embedded systems and low-level programming
- Good understanding of electronics and the ability to interpret hardware schematics
- Experience working on connected or wireless embedded products
- Strong understanding of embedded software development lifecycles and product quality processes
- Experience with Sub-1GHz RF systems or wireless communication technologies
- Knowledge of Linux kernel development
- Understanding of low-power embedded product design
- Experience with modern C++ (C++11 or later)
- Familiarity with regulated or standards-driven product environments
- Experience leading multidisciplinary R&D teams within an embedded systems environment
