Ko Taku Reo - Deaf Education New Zealand Canterbury is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf for a full-time, fixed-term position from 20/04/2026 to 18/04/2027, covering for staff on parental leave.
This role involves teaching secondary students (Years 7–15) and requires a certificated teacher with knowledge in:
- English
- Health and physical education
- Learning languages
- Mathematics and statistics
- Science
- Social sciences

- Te reo Māori

Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, focusing on growth, learning, and collaboration. We have 13 provisions based in primary and secondary schools in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.
The role involves:
- Working with small cohorts of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Using a range of communication modes including NZSL and spoken English
- Teaching in various learning contexts
- Supporting each learner’s individual journey
You will be part of a collaborative teaching team, which includes teacher aides, educational interpreters, and access to other specialists as needed, ensuring a wraparound approach to student success.
