About The Role
Black & White Engineering (B&W) is a leading MEP design consultancy. Launched in the UAE in 2007, we became an independent company in 2014 and are now a global consultancy with offices in Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Our engineering expertise spans all sectors of the construction industry, providing pragmatic design solutions that ensure projects are spatially and operationally efficient, with installation and maintenance considerations on site.
Due to growth into the data centre sector, we are recruiting a Principal Electrical Engineer, ideally with data centre experience, to lead a multi-disciplinary team on technically challenging projects. This role will manage projects to deliver excellent service to clients and support the ongoing development and growth of the business, while providing sound technical, design, and contract management support. The role reports to the London-based senior management. We are looking for an experienced professional to provide sound technical, design, and contract management support on Electrical Building Services Engineering disciplines to ensure project requirements and client specifications are fully met.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development and growth of the company by identifying new opportunities and potential areas for growth, and by maintaining and developing existing client relationships.
- Manages a multi-disciplinary design team to ensure successful preparation and delivery of project objectives, including providing technical support.
- Works with other Principal Engineers to ensure quality and timely operation delivery for clients.
- Compiles specifications, drawings, and relevant contract documents, maintaining the required technical quality of work, ensuring that designs comply with the relevant codes, standards, regulations, and procedures.
- Acts as the lead engineer and liaises with the client and external design team as necessary for the successful delivery of projects.
- Provides Electrical Building Services Engineering design to buildings and infrastructure.
- Identifies scope and scheduling changes in accordance with the change control process, maintaining planning and cost control on all scope.
- Monitors and takes responsibility for the profit and loss within the working team.
- Coordinates monthly financial reports, both internal management accounts and external applications for payment.
- Delivers small- to large-scale projects from concept designs through to completion, executing Building Services Engineering activities within the budget and schedule, whilst maintaining technical integrity.
- Negotiates positive outcomes, resource planning, providing motivation and management.
- Promotes team building and supports the team through training and mentoring.
Qualifications
- A relevant degree in Electrical Building Services Engineering, or equivalent qualification or sufficient suitable experience.
- Ability to demonstrate extensive experience in a wide range of technical areas.
- Sound level of knowledge at the principal engineer level and managing a team.
- Desirable experience in data centre projects.
- An appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modelling in the design of buildings.
- Associate or student member of an appropriate professional body such as CIBSE, IET.
- Achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Technical electrical knowledge and a thorough understanding of Building Services Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
- Results-oriented approach with strong problem-solving, technical realisation, and coordination skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer literacy which includes Autodesk Suite, ProDesign, lighting software, and Microsoft Office.
- Current UK driving licence.
