We are an Accredited employer under the Liverpool City Region Fair Employment Charter, demonstrating that we are committed to the principle of fair employment and we are dedicated to providing a healthy, fair, inclusive and just workplace.

Knowsley Council’s Travel and Travel Support Service are looking to recruit two Travel Support Officers. The role will require you to implement and develop a structured Independent Travel Training process, enabling young people and adults with a range of special needs and disabilities to live more independently and to encourage and learn skills to be able to walk and use public transport to various destinations.

In this role, you will assist in developing and building a new Independent Travel Training programme and support the Senior Travel Support Officer and Transport in the day-to-day delivery of the home-to-school/adult transport service. Full training will be provided but it is desirable for candidates to have a background working with children/adults with additional needs.

In this role, we are looking for someone who can/has:

  • To work closely with a wide range of service users, families and carers with a person-centred approach.
  • To work closely with internal and external agencies.
  • To assist in the day-to-day running of transport services and monitoring providers.
  • To support the planning, co-ordination and delivery of travel training.
  • To assist in the design, delivery and evaluation of training programmes, improving outcomes for service users.
  • To ensure individual learner needs are identified and met at all times using a personalised delivery.
  • To fully complete relevant assessment processes to evidence service-user learning.
  • Assess the extent to which service users have moved to making their own travel arrangements to empower them to lead more independent lives.
  • Evaluate service users.
  • To ensure that Health and Safety legislation is adhered to and to undertake regular risk assessments.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate up-to-date records.
  • Report performance for management of key performance indicators.
  • Knowledge of Knowsley the borough and local transport links.

The posts will require candidates to work between 8am and 5pm with a flexible approach. Occasionally these hours could change based on service users' needs, but this would be minimal due to most of the travel being locally and with Merseyside.

Candidates should be experienced in the use of software packages for example Outlook, Word & Excel as well as being able to extract information from the internet.

At Knowsley Council we will consider requests for flexible working. For most roles, the following types of flexibility are usually possible: flexible hours, working from home, compressed hours, part-time.

We welcome applications from residents and beyond, regardless of background, belief, or identity, recognising the value that diversity brings to our organisation. We particularly welcome applications from individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and candidates with disabilities as we acknowledge their underrepresentation in our workforce.
