Teaching Assistant Level 2 with SEN Allowance (Supporting pupils in reception)

Pay Scale: Pay Band D / SCP 5–6 £25,583 – £25,989 pro rata per annum Plus SEN Allowance: £1,539 pro rata per annum Actual Salary: £20,430 – £20,755 per annum Actual SEN Allowance: £1,229 per annum

The Governors of St Laurence’s Catholic Primary School wish to appoint a dedicated and suitably qualified Teaching Assistant to support pupils in reception with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and enabling them to thrive.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEND, promoting independence, confidence and engagement
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to deliver and adapt a personalised Provision Plan
  • Support the development of communication and interaction skills, including language development
  • Help the pupil to engage positively with peers and adults
  • Promote cognition and learning across curriculum areas such as reading, writing and maths
  • Plan and adapt provision to meet sensory and learning needs
  • Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Show initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs (experience with needs such as communication difficulties or ADHD would be advantageous)
  • Demonstrate high expectations and a commitment to raising outcomes for all pupils
  • Be skilled in supporting children to develop independence, communication and social interaction
  • Be patient, flexible and resilient, with a positive and nurturing approach

This is a temporary position linked to EHCP funding and will cease if:

  • The pupil leaves the school, or
  • The allocated EHCP provision is reduced or withdrawn

  • Undertake an enhanced DBS check
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Undergo an online search in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education
