Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council is currently looking to appoint an Independent Person to its Governance and Audit Committee. The role would particularly suit someone with a keen interest in local government, governance, accountancy and treasury, audit and an enthusiasm for maintaining high standards in public life. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to act objectively with impartiality and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Key to the role of the committee is the consideration of financial information, and particularly the annual statement of accounts. It undertakes an independent review of governance, risk management and control frameworks, which includes the council's arrangements for performance management and overseeing the financial reporting and annual governance processes.
The Committee holds six meetings a year and the successful candidate will be expected to attend training offered, read reports prior to meetings to be able to ask questions and challenge, enquire and probe issues in a positive way. The term of office is for three municipal years, subject to any extension that may be agreed on individual cases arising from the needs of the service. The role attracts an allowance of £200 (all inclusive) per Committee meeting attended, and training will be provided as part of the role.
