Overview

Occupational Therapist role at Knowjau S.R.L. This exciting opportunity is with the Transforming Lives Team โ€“ Prisons. The role requires knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and experience of working creatively with adults who have care and support needs. A commitment to strengths-based practice, promoting independence and wellbeing while safely managing risks is essential.

You will work within a wider Social Care Team and Directorate, including Community Forensic Social Work teams and the Mental Health Discharge Team. Clinical Occupational Therapy supervision will be provided by a Senior Occupational Therapist, with opportunities to link with wider Occupational Therapy teams within Nottinghamshire County Council.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake occupational therapy assessments and interventions for adult prisoners within Nottinghamshire and provide care and support that meets eligibility criteria (Care Act 2014); transfer care back into the community when sentences end.
  • Potentially undertake assessments in hospitals and community settings; assess for and prescribe equipment; carry out environmental assessments of property to identify suitable housing; perform functional assessments to identify appropriate Occupational Therapy outcomes.
  • Assess and review ongoing needs; commission appropriate services (e.g., equipment, adaptations, techniques, care packages); set goals to maximise independence and quality of life while reducing or delaying the need for formal or residential care in line with the Care Act 2014.
  • Work in collaboration with prison services and external agencies, requiring confidence and independence in a sometimes challenging environment.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, organisational and IT skills.
  • Commitment to interprofessional collaboration with partner agencies.
  • Ability to work autonomously with a high degree of resilience.
  • Hold a UK Driverโ€™s Licence (where disability does not preclude this).
