We are recruiting for an Accountant to join a growing accountancy practice in Camberley that provides advice and accounting solutions to help entrepreneurial and high-growth businesses. The firm is open to candidates at various experience levels, hence the wide salary range advertised, and welcomes applications from Semi-Senior to Senior level.
The role is office-based, supporting a manager in providing a varied portfolio of clients with services including statutory accounts, audit, accounting and VAT advice, and self-assessment corporate and personal tax returns.
Accountant Responsibilities
- Preparing statutory accounts, VAT returns, payroll, corporation tax, personal tax returns, and some audit work.
- Ensuring year-end files are complete with backup schedules supporting balance sheet figures.
- Handling client enquiries daily and informing the manager to keep them fully updated.
- Maintaining consistent quality across all work.
- Developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
- Supervising, managing, motivating, and training junior staff.
- Updating existing systems and developing new ones as appropriate.
- Ensuring budgets are met.
- Reviewing VAT returns, understanding VAT requirements, concepts, and calculations.
- Providing ad hoc advisory services.
Candidate Requirements
- Recently or nearly qualified ACA or ACCA; exceptional qualified by experience candidates may be considered.
- Significant UK accountancy practice experience.
- Proficiency in preparing statutory accounts, audit, VAT returns, payroll, and personal, partnership, and corporation tax returns.
- Strong IT skills, including advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, SUMIFS), and familiarity with IRIS and Xero software; ability to learn new packages quickly.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates skepticism, critical thinking, and ability to identify potential issues beyond the status quo.
