Role Description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team on a fixed-term (6-9 months), part-time (three days a week) basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional to make a meaningful contribution to a busy finance function within a growing engineering consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accounts payable functions including but not limited to accurately recording supplier and intercompany invoices; submitting Purchase Orders on our internal PO system for project manager approval, following up on pending approvals, and finalizing the PO process for ISO compliance; collecting receipts and reconciling monthly credit card statements with the office administrator; and processing electronic payments in our accounting system to ensure timely and accurate settlements.
  • Issuing sales invoices to clients in accordance with project billing schedules and company procedures.
  • Reconciling accounts receivable, monitoring outstanding balances and supporting the team in following up on overdue payments.
  • Performing regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy between financial records and bank statements as well as reconciling the petty cash balance with the office administrator.
  • Processing employee expense claims, verifying compliance with company policy and ensuring timely reimbursement.
  • Performing month-end close and financial reporting functions including preparing and posting various month-end close journal entries (prepaids, depreciation, etc.), assisting with updating monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and monthly expense and revenue account reconciliations and assisting with preparing schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audit requirements.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records using Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Supporting the Financial Controller and wider finance team with ad hoc tasks as required.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in an accounts or finance role, with demonstrable knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics or a similar accounting software package.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of numerical accuracy.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload effectively.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a professional services or consultancy environment.
  • Familiarity with multi-currency transactions or international billing.
  • AAT qualification or equivalent (part-qualified or qualified).
