As Health and Safety Manager, you will be integral to leading the cultural change towards improved health and safety awareness and standards across the site, balancing the contemporary challenges of Health and Safety Legislation and Guidance with the needs of a continual manufacturing organisation so that the Site attains the performance targets set for Safety and Compliance.

You will assist and support the Plant Manager and the Leadership team to ensure that the Plant meets its legal requirements and corporate objectives in all safety and environmental aspects by undertaking regular audits, inspections, tests and assessments as required. You will also manage all aspects of health, safety and environment including fire safety and to co-ordinate and lead all integrated management system implementation and compliance.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carry out regular periodic audits of operational practice, Knauf Insulation procedures (both Group and local) involving and working collaboratively with key personnel and those responsible for compliance with such procedures and work instructions so that Operating Standards and personal accountability are continually reinforced.
  • Arrange, carry out and lead HSE inspections, sampling, monitoring/tests in order to assess compliance and non-conformances and establish trend data in team, individual and plant/equipment performance.
  • Lead or assist with risk assessments, accident and incident investigations so that hazards and unsafe practices are identified, cause of accidents and incidents is established and remedial plans are put in place and the relevant teams implement the plan.
  • Work in partnership with the Management team to organise statutory and safety training so that arrangements are in place and agreed to ensure that scheduled attendances occur.
  • Deliver in house health and safety training so that all personnel are educated in statutory requirements and best practice and understand their personal responsibility to work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Representation at relevant meetings providing succinct and considered input so that the Chairman and attendees are informed and guided on issues and opportunities and develop effective plans and actions.
  • Liaise as necessary with other organisations and relevant authorities (such as the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency and the Fire Regulatory Authorities), and assistance and cooperation concerning audits and remedial actions.
  • Maintain all necessary recording and reporting documents.

What we’d love for you to have:

  • Working knowledge of health & safety Legislation and Guidance and its application in a manufacturing setting.
  • Advanced fire certifications (NEBOSH Fire Cert etc...).
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
  • Experience working in a health and safety related function at Management Level.
  • Experience of managing, motivating, influencing and empowering staff and others.
  • Experience in a continuous process plant.
  • Trained and experienced auditor of management systems.
  • Effective communication, motivation, influencing and empowering skills.
  • Able to work effectively with managers and health and safety representatives to achieve the most effective results.
  • Demonstrable track record in leading and delivering projects, objectives and services within deadlines and to agreed targets/performance indicators.
  • Demonstrate creativity, initiative, diplomacy, resourcefulness, and resilience, in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage changing workload and conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrate a professional approach which generates credibility and confidence amongst The Management Team, Staff, External organisations and all other stakeholders.
