KMK Recruitment is working with an established and successful specialist recruitment business that is looking for an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to join its small, friendly team on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of the numbers and is looking for a flexible role that can work around other commitments. The role is expected to be approximately 20 hours per week, with some flexibility around how these hours are structured. Workload will naturally fluctuate, with busier periods around month-end, invoicing, VAT returns and audit requirements.
The Role
- Taking ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring the company's accounts, cashflow, reporting and financial processes are accurate, well managed and up to date.
- Preparing and issuing approximately 90 sales invoices per month, including self-billing, permanent placements and Euro invoices.
- Managing invoices through the company's invoice discounting system.
- Processing purchase invoices and maintaining accurate records using Sage Line 50.
- Reconciling £, $ and € bank accounts and invoice discounting accounts.
- Preparing and maintaining cashflow forecasts and providing the Directors with clear visibility of the company's cash position.
- Preparing payment runs for Director approval.
- Producing monthly management information, budgets and cashflow reports.
- Preparing monthly aged debtor and creditor reports.
- Managing the quarterly VAT return process, including preparation, submission and reconciliation.
- Carrying out credit control and following up outstanding client payments.
- Preparing the monthly consultant commission run.
- Processing monthly expenses.
- Supporting the preparation of annual statutory accounts and liaising with the external accountant.
- Supporting the six-monthly audit process and responding to auditor queries.
- Working closely with the Office Manager to track invoices, timesheets and payment packages.
- Monitoring outstanding submissions and resolving finance-related queries.
- Managing invoice discounting reconciliations, reporting and associated queries.
- Providing ad hoc financial analysis.
About You
- We are looking for an experienced finance professional who is comfortable taking ownership of the finance function within a small business and can work autonomously without significant day-to-day supervision.
- You will ideally have previous experience working as a Financial Controller, ideally within an SME.
- Strong working knowledge of Sage Line 50.
- Experience with online banking and invoice discounting systems.
- Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- A strong understanding of cashflow, reconciliations, VAT and management reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- The confidence to communicate with Directors, accountants, auditors and clients.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to identify and resolve issues.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Flexibility around working hours to accommodate the needs of the business.
