KMC Recruitment are working with a well-established and respected business within the hire sector to recruit a Depot Fitter for their Reading operation. This is a key role within the depot, focused on ensuring equipment is maintained, serviced, repaired, and prepared to a high standard before going back out on hire. The successful candidate will join a busy operational team where safety, quality, and reliability are a big focus. It’s the sort of role that suits someone practical, proactive, and comfortable getting stuck into a varied workload. The Role
You’ll be working across the workshop and yard, supporting the preparation, servicing, repair, and off-hire process for welfare and plant equipment. Responsibilities will include:
- Servicing and repairing welfare units, cabins, and plant equipment
- Preparing equipment for hire and carrying out off-hire inspections
- Diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently
- Supporting Hire Managers, Supervisors, and Team Leaders with day-to-day operations
- Identifying and reporting damage or additional repair requirements
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety
- Liaising with other departments to ensure equipment is ready on time
- Supporting wider depot operations when required
- Occasionally working additional hours or supporting other depots
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Mechanical or engineering background
- Experience working with generators
- Low voltage DC experience
- Experience working with towable units
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- FLT licence
