We’re looking for an experienced operational leader who understands what it takes to run a high-performing depot. You’ll need to be equally comfortable managing people, driving productivity and controlling costs as you are dealing with customers and ensuring equipment is available, compliant and ready for hire.
As Depot Manager, you’ll have autonomy for the day-to-day running of the operation, with responsibilities including:
- Leading, developing and motivating the depot team
- Managing workshop, engineering, transport, yard and administrative functions
- Ensuring equipment is inspected, repaired and made available for hire efficiently
- Driving depot performance against operational, productivity and service KPIs
- Managing fleet availability and working closely with other locations to maximise utilisation
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance
- Ensuring transport operations and the LGV fleet remain compliant
- Managing depot costs, stock and third-party suppliers
- Monitoring performance, identifying training requirements and developing team members
- Maintaining strong relationships with existing customers and supporting local business growth
- Ensuring customers receive a consistently high level of service
- Taking ownership of site standards, facilities and general depot operations
About you: We’re looking for someone with proven operations or depot management experience, ideally within plant hire, construction equipment or heavy machinery. You’ll be a confident people manager with experience leading sizeable teams and dealing with the realities of a fast-paced depot environment. You should be commercially aware, highly organised and comfortable taking ownership when things don’t quite go to plan. Knowledge of plant and construction equipment would be highly advantageous, along with IOSH, CPC or a relevant plant maintenance qualification, although these aren’t essential. A full UK driving licence is required.
Package:
- £60,000 - £70,000 salary, depending on experience
- Electric or hybrid company car or £4,500 annual car allowance
- Annual performance-related bonus
- 23 days annual leave, increasing with service
- Birthday off when it falls on a working day
- Company pension
- Life assurance
- Medicash healthcare benefits
- Virtual GP and 24/7 employee assistance programme
- Wider health and wellbeing support
