Purpose of the job
Oversees all day-to-day manufacturing operations within the facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
In close collaboration with the HSE and Engineering manager, this role is responsible for leading production teams, optimizing processes, managing performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement to meet customer expectations and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities include
- Safety & Environmental Stewardship
- Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with all internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and ensure corrective actions are timely and effective.
- Promote sustainability initiatives related to waste reduction, recycling, and energy efficiency .
- Operational Leadership
- Lead and supervise daily production activities across multiple shifts to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to production schedules.
- Allocate resources (labour, equipment, materials) effectively to maximize throughput and minimize downtime.
- Monitor operational KPIs such as OEE, throughput, waste/scrap, downtime, and labour efficiency.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all products meet quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the Quality team to investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and industry-specific regulations (e. g., ISO, BRC, GMP).
- People Management
- Directly manage supervisors, line leaders, and production staff.
- Coach, train, and develop team members to build capability and support career growth.
- Conduct performance reviews, manage staffing levels, and oversee hiring for production roles.
- Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and enhance equipment reliability.
- Utilize lean manufacturing tools (5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis, SMED, value stream mapping).
- Partner with Engineering and Maintenance teams to support equipment upgrades, line optimization, and automation projects .
- Planning & Reporting
- Develop daily/weekly/monthly production plans in collaboration with Supply Chain and Planning teams.
- Track and report production performance, identify variances, and implement action plans.
- Manage production budgets, including labour, overtime, materials usage, and operational expenses.
Management responsibility
- Up to 6 direct reports, and high numbers of indirect reports that fluctuate depending on demand.
- Will manage skilled and semi-skilled labour.
