We are seeking a proactive and resilient Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Bradford. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on challenge and wants to make a genuine impact.
Our HSE and Quality systems are currently undergoing significant improvement. We are looking for someone with tenacity, practical problem-solving ability, and the confidence to challenge the status quo. The successful candidate will play a key role in bringing structure, accountability, and continuous improvement to our safety and environmental practices.
This role would suit someone who enjoys building systems, driving cultural change, and working closely with operational teams to embed strong HSE standards across the organisation.
Key Requirements:- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety policies, procedures, and systems across the manufacturing site.
- Conduct risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statements.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Support and drive behavioural safety initiatives to build a proactive safety culture.
- Conduct internal HSE audits and site inspections, ensuring compliance with UK legislation.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits.
- Support initiatives to reduce environmental impact including waste management, emissions, and resource use.
- Maintain environmental records and reporting requirements.
- Help bring structure and organisation to the HSE systems.
- Support development and maintenance of management systems aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 (experience with ISO 9001 is beneficial).
- Maintain documentation, procedures, and records.
- Deliver HSE training and toolbox talks across the business.
- Work closely with supervisors and managers to improve HSE awareness and accountability.
- Act as a visible and approachable HSE presence on the shop floor.
- Identify gaps in existing HSE processes and implement practical solutions.
- Develop clear action plans and follow through to completion.
- Support the wider business in embedding a culture of safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
We are looking for someone who is practical, determined, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves, with:
- Experience in an HSE role within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments.
- Strong working knowledge of UK HSE legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- A proactive attitude with the resilience to work through complex or underdeveloped systems.
- NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent).
- Experience with ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 management systems.
- Experience improving or rebuilding HSE systems in a developing environment.
