Century Engineering, a Kleinfelder company, is currently looking for experienced Utility Locators to perform subsurface utility locates on highway, utility and private projects within the Delmarva region. The person filling this role will be required to report to the Dover, DE office at least once per month to attend mandatory virtual safety/staff meetings. Applicant must be responsible, highly motivated, and a detailed-oriented individual interested in joining our Traffic and Utility Engineering Division. OQ Certification must be obtained within one month of employment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform visual inspection of predefined construction areas
- Read and interpret utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities
- Use special electronic equipment to detect and locate utilities, including gas, electric, cable TV, telecommunications, sanitary sewer, and water lines
- Use iPad or other devices to receive, document, and close out excavation notices
- Communicate effectively with excavators, utility representatives, and company personnel regarding underground facilities
- Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and mark underground facilities
- Use ground penetrating radar or sonar to locate non-ferrous conduits and pipes
- Provide accurate documentation and photos of all locates
- Respond to excavation notices in accordance with established time requirements
- Operate company vehicle safely and maintain a professional appearance
- Drive to project/client sites to complete tasks or attend meetings
- Perform junction well and/or manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices
- Work in all weather conditions
- Participate in the on-call rotation, including weekend and after-hour commitments
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1-year utility locate experience
- Minimum of 1-year damage-free driving record
- Ability to obtain Operator Qualification certification within one month of employment
- Valid driver's license with demonstrated safe driving practices
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and have an exemplary driving record
Physical Abilities:
- Regular use of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment; reaching overhead; bending at the waist; standing and walking for extended periods; hearing and speaking to exchange information; carrying 3-5 lb. electronic locating equipment; lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
