Our Edinburgh based client has an exciting opportunity and are currently hiring for a Process Development Chemist to join their growing company on a permanent basis.
Job Overview
This is a partly customer-facing role and involves discussions with potential customers to understand their production process requirements and how to meet those requirements via the use of the company\’s process technology solutions. In addition, the PDC will lead the technical execution of in-house R&D projects, working with our partners to support or directly carry out laboratory work. As well as frequent online meetings with customers and partners it is envisaged the role will involve travel to customer sites around Europe as well as potentially North America and Asia.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Organise and lead the execution of in-house process development (R&D) projects, coordinating with 3rd party subcontractors to deliver desired outcomes.
- Meet with potential customers to understand their targeted chemical processes and determine their product and /or process development needs. Interpret how these requirements can be accommodated using continuous processing technology.
- Work with the Technical Development Manager and Manufacturing team to devise a suitable process solution for customers using continuous processing technology, including input to the definition of the required unit configuration.
- Research and develop expertise in chemistry and process requirements for targeted application areas and contribute to preparation of funding applications to support R&D projects.
- Contribute to product and documentation development for products/ applications.
Qualifications
- Degree level in either Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience of process development and scale-up in chemical, pharmaceutical, energetics or related manufacturing industries in either a laboratory or production environment, or relevant experience in a research environment in a university or research institute.
- Capable of planning and executing development projects, analyzing results and writing high quality reports.
- Experience dealing directly with chemistry and process related matters with customers.
- Confident and self-assured personality with the ability to deal directly with customers in a professional manner as well as clearly communicating customer needs and requirements to the engineering team.
- Customer focused, with the desire to provide a high-quality service.
- Inquisitive and questioning, with a desire to solve customer challenges and deliver the right solution.
- Must be willing to travel internationally and act independently.
