An established international life sciences and diagnostics business is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Executive to join its team at a busy site near Edinburgh
This is a practical, site-based role supporting a working environment that includes laboratories, manufacturing, technical functions and office-based teams.
The successful candidate will work closely with managers and employees across the site to maintain high Health & Safety standards, support compliance and help strengthen a positive, practical safety culture.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety policies, procedures and systems
- Carrying out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments
- Supporting COSHH assessments and the safe handling and storage of chemicals
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
- Working with managers to identify hazards and reduce operational risk
- Maintaining H&S documentation, records and reporting
- Supporting emergency procedures and fire safety
- Delivering inductions, briefings and Health & Safety training
- Monitoring compliance with relevant UK legislation and internal standards
- Supporting contractor safety and site improvement projects
- Helping develop a proactive safety culture across the organisation
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have practical Health & Safety experience gained within a:
- Manufacturing environment
- Laboratory or scientific environment
- Pharmaceutical or medical device business
- Life sciences organisation
- Chemical or similarly regulated industry
You are likely to have:
- A recognised Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
- Good working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
- Experience carrying out risk assessments, audits and incident investigations
- Knowledge of COSHH and workplace chemical safety
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- The confidence to work with employees and managers at all levels
- A practical and pragmatic approach to Health & Safety
Experience within life sciences, diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals or GMP manufacturing would be advantageous, although candidates from other regulated manufacturing environments will also be considered.
