Overview

As a Senior Firmware & Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and support embedded firmware and Windows desktop software for Filmetrics’ measurement instruments. You’ll bridge software, firmware, and electronics to deliver real-time control and rich desktop applications. You’ll collaborate with hardware and electrical engineers to bring up boards and co-develop hardware/software features. You’ll apply modern software practices, test extensively, and contribute to architecture and design decisions. This role offers impact across instruments used in surface profiling, thin-film, and related measurements, with opportunities to work across global teams and cutting-edge tech.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and deliver embedded firmware (C/C++) for microcontrollers with real-time control and multiple hardware interfaces (USB, Ethernet, UART, SPI, I2C)
  • Develop Windows desktop software in C#/.NET (WPF/WinForms) and C++ for instrument control, GUI, and data analysis
  • Collaborate with electrical/hardware engineers on board bring-up, debugging, and firmware/hardware co-development
  • Build robust unit/integration tests, profile performance, memory, reliability, and security
  • Participate in design reviews, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and troubleshoot system issues
  • Conduct root-cause analysis, implement fixes, and help prevent recurrence
  • Communicate risks, tradeoffs, and progress, and learn new software technologies

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field and significant experience
  • Strong C/C++ and .NET/C# development experience for Windows desktop apps (WPF/WinForms)
  • Embedded firmware experience with real-time control and hardware communication protocols (USB, UART, SPI, I2C)
  • Experience interfacing software with hardware using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Proficiency with Visual Studio and Git; adherence to coding standards
  • Ability to read schematics and collaborate with hardware teams
  • Good communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills
