Job Responsibility:
- You will work with the IP transactions legal team as well as the wider global IP legal team on the full life cycle of IP, AI, and data privacy law matters, including but not limited to:
- Provide guidance to the business teams regarding compliance requirements with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Also, drive negotiations on AI-related terms in vendor and client contracts.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization to develop processes related to AI adaption.
- Understand and interpret AI laws in the UK and Europe and their applicability to business.
- Collaborate with internal teams to strategically engage with government regulators and agencies.
- Review technical & legal aspects of services or product agreements.
- Sensitize technology teams of risks and negotiate with clients, vendors, or partners.
- Manage overall intellectual property (IP), AI, and data privacy risk assessment processes for proprietary product/platform development.
- Engage with business teams to understand technical & commercial contexts and translate the requirements for drafting of legal agreements from IP, AI, and data privacy perspectives.
- Conduct legal research on emerging AI legal regulation to enhance awareness and update contractual positions.
- Support in developing and creating IP and AI material for imparting IP and AI awareness in the organization.
This role is very broad in scope and can vary on a day-to-day basis depending on what our business requires. We are looking for someone who is a ‘team player’, enjoys a challenge, wants to work in a fast moving and fluid environment and who works well with people across cultures and geographies. Not only does the role cover all EMEA countries but it also requires working regularly with our “offshore” teams around the globe.
Qualifications and Skillset Required:
- It is essential that you can demonstrate experience in advising across European jurisdictions.
- We are looking for someone who is flexible and motivated to deliver outcomes and with an ability to adapt and be pro-active in an ever-changing environment.
- Ideally, you would have: 8-12 years’ work experience in a corporate environment or a law firm.
- LLB or LLM
- Technical (preferably in electronic/software) background would be preferred.
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of AI technology and awareness of regulatory developments across different jurisdictions, especially in the EU and UK.
- Strong understanding of different contracts such as MSA, software license agreements, SaaS, teaming agreement, MOU, etc.
- Keen interest in emerging technology areas such as AI, IoT, Cloud, security, etc, is a must.
- Clear understanding of IP concepts, including patents, copyright, and trade secrets.
- Practical knowledge of issues such as fair use, derivative works, authorship, infringement, licensing principles, risk scenarios in the software industry, etc.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate/show examples of solutions provided to complex techno-legal issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to analyse and apply logical reasoning while addressing issues.
