Kite Magnetics (Melbourne, Australia) develops and manufactures advanced magnetic materials for use in high performance electric motors. Our patented Aeroperm® nanocrystalline material enables lighter, more efficient electric motors and generators for weight- and energy-sensitive applications.
The Opportunity: Help build a new class of magnetic materials and stator cores. This is a hands-on technical production role in a clean, procedure-driven prototype manufacturing environment. The role suits people with a trade, apprenticeship or machining background, or anyone who enjoys working with machines, tools and mechanical systems. Experience with EDM cutting, machining and fitting and turning will be highly regarded. You will help assemble, operate, maintain and improve prototype production equipment, working closely with an experienced team of materials, mechanical and automation engineers. A university degree is not required.

Hours: Permanent day shift with flexible start 6:00 to 9:30 am

What you’ll do:
- Operate a wire EDM and related manufacturing equipment e.g. lathes and mills.
- Operate prototype production equipment safely and reliably following documented procedures.
- Perform machine setup, adjustments and changeovers.
- Assist with the assembly, maintenance and improvement of prototype manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Use precision measurement tools including micrometers, dial indicators, calipers and precision scales.
- Manufacture tooling, fixtures and jigs.
- Use workshop equipment including manual mills and lathes (training available where needed).
- Work safely around industrial equipment including hoists, compressed gases, vacuum systems and high temperature ovens.
- Maintain clear documentation as we progress toward ISO 9001 readiness.
- Protect company IP and follow confidentiality procedures.
Ideal Background:
- Mechanical trade or apprenticeship (EDM experience, Fitter & Turner, Toolmaker, Machinist, Maintenance Fitter)
- CNC or manual machining

What you’ll bring:
- Attention to detail and steady hands for repetitive, quality-critical work.

- Ability to read and follow work instructions and simple technical drawings.
- Team player with clear communication and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and safely lift/carry materials/equipment as required.
- Right to work in Australia (no visa sponsorship or relocation).

- Certificate III/IV in Engineering/Manufacturing or strong relevant experience
- Exposure to prototype, R&D, or small-batch manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 for basic documentation and communication
Salary & progression:
- Tiered salary bands (commensurate with experience): 6-month salary review tied to demonstrated capability and responsibilities.
