Salary and Benefits: Full time equivalent salary of £55,437 to £58,525, inclusive of a market supplement of £8,256 per year, reviewed annually. Pro‑ratio benefits include Local Government Pension Scheme, annual leave and flexi-time.
Position Summary: We require an enthusiastic solicitor, barrister or legal executive to join our adult legal team. The role involves advising adult social care and community health teams within Torbay Council and Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, providing legal advice across a wide spectrum of adult services and social care law, including Community Care, Mental Health, Mental Capacity and all adult social care matters. As a more senior practitioner you will handle complex cases and advise on higher level strategic and policy issues.
Responsibilities:
- Advise adult social care and community health teams on legal matters.
- Provide legal advice across the full spectrum of adult services and social care law.
- Handle complex and competing matters within your caseload.
- Support strategic and policy issues at a higher level.
- Work to deadlines with a varied and busy caseload; adapt to remote/hybrid working arrangements.
Skills:
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to give clear and accurate legal advice.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Knowledge:
- High level of knowledge of the law and procedure within a specialist discipline.
- Knowledge of the law applicable to Local Government.
- General awareness of the policies, aims and objectives of the Council.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Admitted as a practising Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX (or equivalent) with at least 3 years post‑qualification experience.
- Suitable training as a legal advisor/advocate.
- Experience of handling complex or competing matters.
Additional Information: This post meets the requirements of the Public Services Network (PSN) and therefore requires a Basic Criminal Record Check to show any unspent convictions and conditional cautions. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
