Overview
Your experience as a warehouse/depot/site controller can help us to deliver a programme of improvements across the whole city of Salford. A safe, efficient, cost-effective depot operation is vital to the on-time, on-budget delivery of highways, structures, and landscape projects – projects at the heart of Salford’s regeneration. It’s a role that will make the best of your problem-solving abilities and people skills, as well as your practical skills behind the wheel. We can provide in-depth training, support and mentoring to get you up to speed with the demands of our depot. You will also be encouraged to continue to develop and grow your skills and increase your impact and career potential.
Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for all vehicle/plant machinery movements, overseeing that all paperwork is being completed and submitted.
- Ensure adequate stock levels are kept and maintained for all stock at the depot, taking charge of stock and stock taking with the Deputy Depot Controller.
- Organise goods received and order stock daily for jobs as operatives require to complete tasks.
- Maintain health and safety at the depot yard and offices, ensuring compliance for all vehicles and plant machinery use and parking.
- Identify and manage any maintenance needs.
- Manage waste movements, taking responsibility for any transactions associated with waste removals (e.g. scrap metal removals).
- Provide cover to operate the JCB and forklift truck to facilitate stock movements and deliveries around the depot.
- Supervise the Deputy Depot Controller, ensuring they are carrying out duties required of them.
- Be a key holder for the depot.
Your profile / Qualifications
- Proven experience within a similar environment.
- Experience of supervising staff and supporting/directing colleagues in completing tasks.
- Forklift and JCB licence (HGV advantageous, HGV training potential).
- Some previous experience of stock control and stock taking activities.
- Understanding and working knowledge of Health and Safety at Work.
- Be prepared to work flexibly at weekends and out of hours to support depot operations that vary depending on activity levels.
