Overview
We’re an adult social care team that aims to give citizens in Essex as much choice and control as possible, supporting independence and fulfilling lives.
The Mid Essex Physical & Sensory Impairments team works with adults aged eighteen and over with conditions including Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, Huntingdon’s Disease, Sensory Loss and Fibromyalgia.
The team works within a multi-disciplinary framework to support complex social care needs, safeguarding and promoting independence while balancing outcomes for adults and their families.
The team is collaborative and aims to deliver good outcomes through innovative working, TEC for early help, complex interventions, and safeguarding to enable positive changes in local communities.
We offer hybrid working with an expectation to be office-based in Chelmsford around 2–3 days per week for collaboration and training.
About the Role
Senior Social Worker responsibilities include
- Provide expert guidance by modelling best practice, offering specialist advice, and mentoring both newly qualified and experienced colleagues.
- Assess and support: manage a diverse and complex caseload, undertake comprehensive assessments, and develop person-centred care plans.
- Ensure compliance by supporting people to live full lives within the Care Act framework, relevant legislation and organisational standards.
- Manage caseloads by delivering expert social work practice in complex situations and upholding professional standards.
- Collaborate across the Council and with partners to shape high-quality solutions that promote independence.
- Represent Adult Social Care by chairing multi-agency meetings and ensuring a social care perspective is actively represented.
About You
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
- AMHP, BIA or Practice Educator qualified.
- Proactive and passionate social worker with a proven record of handling complex cases and supporting other staff.
- Ability to mentor both newly-qualified and experienced team members, providing guidance in complex situations.
- Significant Adult Social Care experience with a comprehensive understanding of current legislation, regulations and guidance.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and alignment with current professional standards.
- Understanding of the financial implications of commissioned care packages.
- Ability to make clear decisions and identify and mitigate risks associated with intervention.
- Experience chairing meetings involving clients, family members, carers and multi-agency professionals.
- A commitment to developing and contributing to management within the team.
This role involves travel around Essex, including rural areas with limited public transport.
A driving licence and car – or ability to meet mobility requirements through other means – is essential.
