Key responsibilities

  • Frontline Customer Service: act as the first point of contact for all visitors, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Promoting Reading & Literacy: actively champion the joy of reading. You will help customers discover new authors and support literacy initiatives across the service.
  • Information and IT Support: deal effectively with all customer enquiries—face‑to‑face, over the phone, and digitally including support with IT and digital services.
  • Operational Duties: carry out essential general library duties, support building security, and perform basic health & safety tasks.
  • Events and Activities: actively support and participate in a wide range of events and activities for all ages, from story times to digital workshops.
  • Flexible Teamwork: work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team. Be able to travel – main work base will be Sedbergh but there may be times when cover is needed in any of the South Lakes library locations including Ambleside, Windermere, Milnthorpe, Grange‑over‑Sands, Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale.
