Be the change. Lead the future. Improve lives. Dudley is at a defining moment. We are a borough with proud communities, a strong identity and genuine ambition. As we continue to build a modern, resilient and resident-focused council, we are seeking an Associate Director for Law & Governance to play a central role in shaping how we work, how we make decisions and how we deliver lasting improvement.

This is a significant leadership opportunity at the heart of the Council’s future direction, providing strategic leadership across legal services, constitutional governance, data protection and information governance. Your expertise will help ensure that the Council operates with confidence, transparency and integrity, while enabling the organisation to respond effectively to change.

You will join a developing senior leadership team, united by a shared commitment to collaboration, improvement and public service. Working with Directors, elected Members, the Chief Executive and partners, you will help strengthen a One Council approach, ensuring that robust governance supports clear priorities, effective delivery and better outcomes for residents.

We are looking for an exceptional, values-led leader with the professional credibility, judgement and resilience to operate in a complex public sector environment. You will be able to build trusted relationships, lead high-performing teams and translate legal and governance frameworks into practical solutions that support service delivery.

If you are ready to make a meaningful contribution to Dudley’s future, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Why join Dudley MBC? At Dudley Council, you will join a team who is committed to delivering better outcomes for our residents through strong leadership, responsible investment and high-quality services. Alongside competitive pay, generous annual leave and a local government pension, you’ll benefit from flexible working arrangements, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to play a leading role in shaping high-quality residential care services.

The closing date for applications is 2nd August 2026. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable groups and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to medical clearance and an enhanced DBS check.
