Please note this vacancy is available as a fixed term contract or secondment opportunity for up to 12 months. This is a part time position working 30 hours per week, the pro rata salary will be £21,047.84 per annum.
This position will involve driving to deliver a fleet of bikes to various locations.
The Opportunity
Our Sustainable Transport team’s priority is to create a Safer, Greener, Healthier County through the increased use of active travel and sustainable transport through modal shift, sustainably designed transport schemes and providing and promoting credible alternatives to the private car.
The role will have these core responsibilities:
- Transporting and maintaining a fleet of bicycles to selected schools across the county.
- Supporting central government funded projects through the delivery of bike maintenance programmes.
The role requires a highly motivated and committed person who can work independently, and with partners, have excellent communication skills with children and adults, and hold a cycle maintenance qualification (desirable) or equivalent experience.
Accountabilities:
- Lead on the logistics of maintaining an ECC fleet of bikes for the sole purpose of Bikeability training in schools and delivering cycles to selected schools county‑wide.
- Liaise with ECC booking administrator, to ensure that each school is aware of the delivery and collection times, as well as any specific requirements for the cycles.
- Organise and manage the provision of cycle maintenance sessions and/or events at workplaces and in community settings.
- Provide regular progress reports to the Cycle Training Officer on the maintenance sessions.
- Support the Active Travel Team to deliver the objectives set out in the relevant policies such as Local Transport Plan, Cycling, Walking and Active Travel Practice Notes.
- Promote active and sustainable travel under the safer, greener, healthier campaign banner, and represent ECC at external Active Travel events.
Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring:
- Cycle maintenance qualification (desirable) or equivalent experience.
- Ability to organise, manage and prioritise accordingly.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a range of audiences.
- Proactive and able to work on own initiative.
- Able to work effectively and collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
- Experienced user and/or advocate of public/sustainable/active transport.
- Experience of walking or cycling initiatives or experience of engaging with communities, residents, and business.
- Able to use Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a valid driving licence and/or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
