As a Social Worker with Essex County Council, you will work with adults and their families to support them in achieving independence under the Care Act 2014.
Responsibilities
- Undertake Care Act‑compliant assessments, reviews, and support planning.
- Work with adults with a range of needs, including older people, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health needs, and safeguarding concerns.
- Apply strengths‑based and person‑centred approaches to promote independence and wellbeing.
- Participate in safeguarding enquiries in line with Section 42 of the Care Act.
- Collaborate with health colleagues, voluntary sector partners, and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage a varied caseload while maintaining professional standards and high‑quality practice.
- Travel around Essex as required; a driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
Qualifications
- Qualified Social Worker (post ASYE) with current Social Work England registration.
- Sound understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding practice.
- Strong assessment, risk management, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a supportive team culture.
- Commitment to reflective practice, learning, and continuous professional development.
- Experience of chairing meetings.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with partner agencies and the local community.
Newly Qualified Social Workers are not considered for this role.
Location and Working Arrangements
Chelmsford, Essex. Hybrid working is offered with an expectation to be office‑based 2–3 days per week for collaborative team work and training.

Salary: £38,487 – £51,834 per annum. Benefits include flexible working arrangements, support for unpaid carers, and a DBS update service requirement as part of employment.
