The Role

The Youth Work in Hospital Project operates within the Mid and South Essex hospitals to support young people aged 11‑19 (up to 25 with SEND) during their hospital stay and after discharge.

The team provides 1‑to‑1 support, targeted youth clubs, and referrals to community and specialist services such as Social Care or NELFT Mental Health Service.

As a Team Leader you will lead delivery, develop the service offer, and manage a caseload of young people across Basildon, Broomfield and Southend hospitals.

• Key Accountabilities
• Collaborate with youth workers to keep young people’s interests at the forefront of delivery.
• Ensure the voice of young people is heard in the design and delivery of the provision.
• Support development and delivery of the project, completing assessments and covering hospital shifts.
• Contribute to team meetings and quarterly reports.
• Manage a defined caseload of young people to identify needs and provide interventions.
• Maintain accurate records and comply with Df E guidance and funder requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Safeguarding, GDPR, Equality and Diversity legislation and handle concerns in line with service policies.
• Collaborate with NHS, CAMHS, Education, Social Care, SEND, Youth Offending Service, Housing and partner agencies to remove barriers to access.
• Foster continuous improvement through creative thinking and constructive challenge.
• Manage risk, including Health and Safety and Business Continuity.

• Develop and deliver imaginative group sessions that encourage participation and skill development.
• Work closely with District and Senior Youth Workers to build community capacity.
• Facilitate learning in line with core youth work values and health targets.
• Provide 1‑to‑1 support in varied settings.
• Manage flexible working hours in line with project and young people’s needs.
• Maintain efficient administrative systems and record keeping.
• Provide information and data as required.
• Participate in supervision and performance management.
• Follow Child Protection/Safeguarding guidelines and report concerns promptly.
• Comply with health and safety responsibilities.
• The Experience You Will Bring
• Nationally recognised JNC qualification in youth support work, minimum Level 3 (QCF, VRQ, NVQ or equivalent).
• Recent continuous professional development.
• Experience with innovative social education programmes.
• Ability to develop and implement outcomes for young people.
• Effective resource management.
• Successful involvement of young people in decision making.
• Knowledge of youth work methods and techniques.
• Proficient numeracy, literacy (GCSE A–C or equivalent) and good IT skills.
• Mobile across the operational area and access to a vehicle.
